Gemrock Design was established in 1999 to provide quality architectural design. Pete is a Licensed Building Practitioner (Design 2) and now has well over twenty years experience in local building design work.
My work tends to be throughout Central Otago, Wanaka and Queenstown, often generated by the builders from past projects.
Design resources include a very fast iMac Pro computer running current Vectorworks software capable of 3D modelling with texture rendering, basic site surveying and graphic design. I constantly build on my knowledge of the industry by attending relevant courses and seminars.
Experience
My portfolio of projects include many bespoke residential homes plus a number of commercial buildings including the Cromwell Racecourse building, Wooing Tree cellar door, Bannockburn Café, Northburn Shed function centre/cellar door, Cromwell Mitre 10, Minaret Station high country luxury lodge, and the Eade Gallery in Clyde. These commercial projects involved consideration of public safety, hygiene and accessibility amongst other compliances.
I enjoy new challenges, applying the same philosophy as with anything new... finding out what I need to know and adapt my design skills to suit. Italian designer Massimo Vignelli said “If you can design one thing, you can design everything,” and I believe Pierre Cardin said something similar. My range of work showcases versatility and professionalism.
A large proportion of my design work is done in conjunction with Owen Philip of Central Blue Ltd, where together we concentrate on high quality custom homes and commercial buildings.
I also design new homes and commercial buildings for many other customers. I am engaged by the developers of The Dunes subdivision at Cromwell Golf Course to oversee progress and ensure their design guidelines for new homes are followed.
Another field covers additions, extensions and re-modelling of existing buildings for various clients and builders; I have ongoing relationships with many of them. I have good experience with structural, fire and acoustic engineering and enjoy good relationships with professionals across the board.
I tend to work with the client, helping them to achieve their goals.
